Alanis Morissette's First Christmas Album Has Some Surprising Guests

Alanis Morissette Christmas Album

Alanis Morissette releases her first Christmas album, Good Weather for Immaculate Conception, featuring Steve Martin, Brandi Carlile and Martin Short.

The 14-track collection arrives November 6 and mixes seasonal favourites with two original songs, including “Christmas on the Dancefloor” and “To an Empath at Christmas Time.” Morissette also takes on John Lennon and Yoko Ono's “Happy Xmas (War Is Over),” Joni Mitchell's “River” and Wham!'s “Last Christmas.” The first taste of the album, “Beautiful Star of Bethlehem,” features Brandi Carlile on vocals and Steve Martin on banjo. That's quite a musical combination, and certainly not the guest pairing most people would expect on a Christmas record.

The surprises keep coming. Martin Short appears on the closing track, “Merry Christmas,” while Amythyst Kiah joins Morissette for “Momma Mary” and Joy Oladokun contributes to “Silent Night.” The U.K. professional trans choir Trans Voices also appears on “O Tannenbaum.” The collection brings together several holiday recordings Morissette has released over the years alongside new material. Christmas albums are hardly in short supply, but this one has a guest list that makes you look twice. Between the banjo, the familiar voices and Morissette's unmistakable musical personality, this holiday gathering sounds like one party worth attending. #MTLmusic #mtlpop #mtlblog
